Criminal Investigations Division
The Criminal Investigation Division (CID) houses Banks County Sheriff’s Office law enforcement personnel who specialize in investigating crimes. This division is responsible for conducting detailed investigations into various criminal activities. It includes investigators, forensics, and other specialized units that handle specific types of crimes such as homicide, robbery, fraud, cybercrime, and narcotics, among others. The CID is an essential part of our agency and plays a crucial role in gathering evidence, interviewing witnesses, and solving cases.

Special Operations Unit
Our Special Operations Unit is composed of highly trained task force agents who specialize in investigating vice crimes, including narcotics-related offenses. These agents undergo advanced training and work proactively to disrupt criminal activity in our community.
When needed, they collaborate with other law enforcement partners such as the Appalachian Regional Drug Enforcement Office (ARDEO), Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), and the FBI’s North Georgia Major Offenders Task Force to tackle large-scale or multi-jurisdictional cases.
Forensic Unit
In 2024, the Banks County Sheriff’s Office expanded its Forensics Unit to a team of five highly trained specialists within the Criminal Investigations Division. This unit plays a critical role in supporting investigations by collecting, analyzing, and managing both physical and digital evidence. Each team member brings a unique specialization while also receiving cross-training to ensure flexibility and comprehensive support across all forensic functions.

The unit’s areas of expertise include crime scene investigations, processing of physical and digital evidence, digital forensics, criminal intelligence analysis, property and evidence management, UAV (drone) piloting, and Real Time Crime Center (RTCC) operations. Together, these capabilities strengthen the department’s ability to solve crimes efficiently and with precision.
